3 Minute Demo: ProCo Rat on Country | Distortion for Chicken Picking

Hello Everyone! I thought it would be fun to figure out different ways to use a ProCo Rat distortion pedal on country guitar in this video. I realize there are plenty of "modern country" examples, but I wanted to stretch a bit and look outside of the more rock-oriented country tunes that are coming out of Nashville these days.

I also want to be clear that I am not claiming that any of the artists I reference in this video actually used a Rat pedal for their guitar parts. I was merely trying to see if I could get an approximation of these tones using this pedal.

That being said, this video was a ton of fun, because I do not usually use distortion at all (or much overdrive for that matter). If you follow this channel, you can probably tell that I love the sound of a Deluxe-style amp with a tele and some light compression. However, pushing myself with this pedal really allowed me to explore some new ideas that I may very well try to incorporate into future session projects, which is definitely the point of doing all of this!

PS - f you've made it this far into the description -- yes, that is my 5 minute rough approximation of the intro played on the Boxmasters' "Heartbreaking Wreck" for the "Alt. Country Lead."

00:25 - Alt. Country Lead
